The journey to understanding autoimmune disease is personal. For us, it started with our founder.
A Message from Dr. Dennis G. Hooper, M.D., Ph.D.
I grew up in Central Nevada during the 1950s. What most people didn’t realize then—but we do now—is that the nuclear bomb tests in nearby deserts sent radioactive dust into the air. The winds carried it across counties like mine, and across Utah. We were known as “upwinders.” Later, we’d learn many of us were also victims.
The government offered help for those who developed cancers. But autoimmune disease? That part was ignored.
I didn’t have the luxury of ignoring it.
My own health journey began with Graves’ disease, a condition where my immune system attacked my thyroid. That later burned out and turned into Hashimoto’s disease, flipping from one extreme to the other. Over time, I developed rheumatoid arthritis (which led to knee replacements), vitiligo, atherosclerosis, autoimmune hepatitis, and finally—after years of damage—required a liver transplant in 2022.
I saw specialist after specialist.
Each one was excellent in their field.
But no one looked at me as a whole person.
That’s why I founded Silver Gene, LLC—to change that experience for others.
We combine nutritional genetics, environmental toxin evaluation, and comprehensive autoimmune insight to help you and your doctors see the bigger picture.
